Neotech® Products LLC and Ninni™ Co. are joining forces to bring the popular direct-to-consumer brand pacifier into hospitals.

Ninni was co-founded by sisters, Jane Molina and Joy Williams. Each is a mom of three children who experienced their own soother struggles. Their patented breast-like pacifier is specifically designed to mimic a woman’s anatomy to help reinforce a strong, healthy breastfeeding latch. Additionally, the Ninni encourages natural sucking and tongue movement during soothing.

“There was no soother on the market that actually mimicked the true natural suckling movement a baby experiences when latched onto mama’s breast,” Jane said.

Ninni successfully launched its direct-to-consumer website in 2021. The brand has experienced staggering growth due to social media and word of mouth. However, they were having challenges penetrating the hospital market. Therefore, they partnered with Neotech to bring the benefits of the breast-like pacifier into hospitals.

Neotech has a long-standing history of collaborating with clinical inventors and vendors to produce specialized products. Innovative products such as NeoBar, NeoGlo, and the RAM Cannula. We’ve also teamed with entrepreneurs to acquire products like the Neotech Bridge. Neotech was built on these types of relationships. Our latest partnership is with a consortium known as CTIP. Neotech was proud to receive two Certificates of Recognition for employing people with disabilities. One from the California State Assembly and one from the California State Senate. 

The company and two of its team members were honored during the Santa Clarita Valley Mayor’s Committee Luncheon in October. Mayor, Jason Gibbs, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the special gathering celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

Neotech President, Craig McCrary, and Product Assembler, Nick Abrahms, were invited to serve on the panel of employers and their employees with disabilities. Guests, who paid to attend, asked business questions of the panel.

When asked by one guest, “what is your dream job?” Abrahms pointed to McCrary and replied, “my dream job is to have his job,” which drew laughs and applause from the audience. He graciously added, “but not until he retires.”

Abrahms and McCrary were also awarded Certificates of Recognition.

Neotech often teams with local organizations that have work programs for people with disabilities. Nick Abrahms is a full-time employee who was hired on through Pleasantview Industries Inc. via their workplace program. He celebrated his 16th year of employment at Neotech in 2023. Neotech also employs Sarah, a part-time team member with Down Syndrome, who also came from Pleasantview.

Additionally, Neotech has a team from Desert Haven Enterprises. The crew consist of four team members with developmental disabilities and one job coach. They work part time and contribute daily to assembly and packaging tasks. The team technically works for a different organization, but they are every bit Team Neotech.

Neotech Products announces the release of a new nasogastric tube holder.

The NeoSnug’s unique, pre-cut shape goes under the nose and allows clinicians to secure the tubing close to the nares. Like several Neotech products, NeoSnug features a NeoBond® Hydrocolloid base, which is less likely to irritate sensitive skin. The flap secures the ng tube permanently to prevent it from shifting or slipping.

“Current common practice is to use multiple products to secure the ng tube; applying DuoDERM® to the skin, then placing the tube, then laying Tegaderm™ or Hypafix® over that,” Inventor Carol Herndon, BSN, RNC-NIC, said. “And nurses often hand-cut them to get the shape they need. I wanted a single use, all-in-one solution that was skin friendly, pre-cut, and extremely secure. The design also helps guard against the infant accidentally pulling out the tube.”

The NeoSnug nasogastric tube holder is made in the United States to ensure quality. The non-woven fabric contours to face or body. Neonates and patients with fragile or sensitive skin will benefit from the hydrocolloid base. It also eliminates the need for DuoDERM. There are two per set with left and right holders which allows the clinician to alternate securement on either side of the face.

Neonatal Skin Care

Products that promote healthy skin care are essential in the NICU. Neonates, and preemies are vulnerable to skin injuries. Neonatal skin is 40–60 percent thinner than the skin of an adult. As noted in the Neonatal Skin Care Evidence-Based Guideline, the removal of layers of skin may lead to an increase in transepidermal water loss and skin permeability, which may compromise fluid balance and lead to toxicity from topically applied substances (McNichol, Lund, Rosen, & Gray, 2013: III). Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric & Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) and the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) both recognize the Guideline.

What is ROP

Retinopathy of prematurity is an eye disease that can happen in premature babies. It causes abnormal blood vessels to grow in the retina, and can lead to blindness.

Some cases of ROP are mild and correct themselves. However, some cases are severe enough to cause scarring that can pull the retina away from the rest of the eye. These cases need surgery to prevent vision loss or blindness.

Neotech Products is proud to announce the acquisition of the Revolutionary Bridge!

The new Neotech Bridge (formerly Laally Bridge) is an easy-to-use, breastfeeding aid that helps babies latch to the breast. It also helps to promote milk production. The Bridge can be used in most circumstances in which a bottle would traditionally be used (e.g., slow weight gain, pain with latch, delay in milk production, jaundice, bottle preference, etc.).

“Neotech is primarily known as a NICU company, but the Bridge is a natural progression into the Mother Baby market,” Craig McCrary, Neotech President said. “We have a few other products in the works for the Mother Baby space. The Bridge marks the start of a new era for Neotech.”

The Bridge is a silicone nipple cover with a built-in channel that attaches to a syringe filled with breastmilk or formula. The syringe allows mom to control the amount and flow to keep the baby at the breast feeding continuously.

Bridge to Breast

A large percentage of mothers experience breastfeeding challenges, including difficulty with infant feeding at the breast, pain, and milk quantity.¹ Kate Spivak invented the Neotech Bridge to address the most common issues. “I created the Bridge because there was a lack of solutions for the most common issues I was seeing in practice,” Spivak said. “I consistently saw babies who were being supplemented with a bottle due to low supply and issues with latch. Theoretically, the solution was simple: keep the baby at the breast as much as possible. Realistically, there was no efficient way to do that until the Bridge was created. Our breastfeeding assistance device serves as a literal bridge from the bottle to the breast.

“The Bridge takes advantage of the body’s natural response to breastfeeding,” Spivak continued. “More stimulation equals more milk. The more the baby stays on the breast, the more milk is created by the body in response. The Bridge allows you to supplement while breastfeeding at the same time. This encourages the natural hormonal feedback mechanism that encourages milk production.”

“I think I am most proud of the impact we’ve made as a company over the last 35 years,” said Craig McCrary, Neotech President. “Impact to employees, impact to clinicians, and impact to patients and parents. We’ve done things that have made a positive difference in many lives around the globe.”

Craig, who has been with Neotech for over 30 years, credits company success to simple, unique products that are clinician-driven and fill a need.

Winning Team

Our employees are the heartbeat of Neotech. The team has grown quite a bit in the last 35 years and their contributions to making a difference are immeasurable. Over 35 years, many faces have come and gone, but we’ve been fortunate to have established a culture of employee longevity. Several team members have been here for more than 10 years.

“When I started at Neotech in November 2007, there were only 16 employees; now we have over 60,” said Nick Abrahms, Product Assembler. Nick has witnessed lots of changes and improvements. “Back in the day, there wasn’t a video jet [printer]; we had to label everything by hand. There were no auto-baggers.”

“Being able to see the growth at Neotech has been very exciting and rewarding,” said Sara Dimmett, Manager of Product Development. “Every day is different. There are new challenges that come up. A shift in whatever you’re doing. It makes each day different and exciting.”

“A lot has changed here at Neotech. Faces. The processes. The systems,” said Laken Tambunting, Warehouse Supervisor. Laken started as a purchasing agent and worked her way up through a few different roles before taking on her current position. “It’s a great company to work for. Lots of relationships get built here. Most importantly, we’re here for the babies; making a difference.”

“It’s been an amazing journey to be a part of,” said Ernie Cavazos, Marketing Manager. “To see the team grow and watch individuals advance within the company. To see the product line expand and evolve. It’s incredibly rewarding when you see pictures of our products in use and hear from clinicians about the difference they make.”

In April 1987, Neotech founders Tom Thornbury, Paul Choksi, and Dr. Arnold Heyman, changed the name of the company from Hospital Concepts, Inc. to Neotech Products, Inc. Today, Dr. Heyman remains a principal owner, along with his son, T.J. Heyman.

For many families, being discharged from the NICU doesn’t mark the end of the medical challenges brought on by a premature birth.

Many patients go home with continuing healthcare needs. Neotech created a division within the company focused solely on the medical needs of these patients, Neotech Home Health. Neotech’s Home Health sector recognizes the special needs of these patients and their families. It works with parents and their DMEs to deliver the products these children need.

Judy McCrary, Director of Sales & Marketing, is a former Respiratory Therapist who helped found Neotech Home Health. Along with her background as a RT, Judy has also worked for a DME company and is familiar with the questions and objections a DME company may have. She and Home Health Account Manager, Melinda Rivas, approach their work more as advocates for children and their families rather than salespeople. “If you believe in what you’re doing, grand things will happen,” Judy says. “So I don’t have to sell anything. All I do is believe in the products that we have. Then, we work with the parents and work with the DME companies… to carry the products that I believe are the best products for their children.”

Neotech is an Essential Home Health Brand

Judy and Melinda find Social Media to be a great resource to connect with families. They belong to many online support groups for parents of special needs children. There, they listen to parents and offer help when possible. On the Neotech Home Health Facebook page, they have fun making contests for parents to submit pictures or stories. Families are awarded with goodie bags filled with Neotech Products and sometimes a little something for other siblings at home. Judy explains, “We take this on as a family unit. It isn’t just about the patient.” The result is parents who love the products. Next, these parents then take the products back to the hospitals and the hospitals turn around and order the products. The parent’s have become spokesman for Neotech. Thank you parents.

With the support of Neotech behind them, Judy and Melinda have cultivated Neotech Home Health into an essential brand in the home healthcare arena. “Our products are now relatively available through DME suppliers and Home Health Agencies and continue to make a difference in the long-term care of our patients,” Melinda says. “Neotech Home Health continues to evolve by bridging the gap between hospital and home care. We understand a parents’ struggle when it comes to fighting for what their child needs and we want to be there to help. We believe in building relationships.”

She adds, “Our products will sell themselves. Our goal is not to make a sale, but to advocate for parents and caregivers to get what they need to take care of their little ones. Even if it means sending free product to hold parents off while we get their DME supplier on board.” 

Making a Difference

I asked Judy why it is important for Home Health to have its own division: “Hospitals are very institutional and home health is a different level… You have to listen and be compassionate and you have to NOT be a salesperson. They are just parents trying to take care of their kids. We are here for them. It’s not about selling anything to them. It’s about caring from them and being an advocate for them.”

Both Judy and Melinda have been personally touched by the families they have helped serve through Neotech Home Health. They have many stories about the children and parents they’ve gotten to know over the years—some of whom they have met in person and witnessed, first-hand, the role Neotech products make in their lives. They are appreciative to know they are Making a Difference in these lives.

Neotech offers several products with NeoBond Hydrocolloid, a neonatal adhesive, including NeoBar®, EZ-Hold®, NeoBridge®, and more. Skin friendly hydrocolloid is a protective adhesive that helps to reduce the risk of damage to fragile skin. It eliminates the need for acrylic tape which can be more damaging. Plus, the long-lasting nature of hydrocolloid means you don’t have to change or remove it as often.

Neotech provides step by step instructions for preparation, application, and removal of hydrocolloid. NeoBond will not adhere properly to moist skin so be sure it is clean and dry. In order to be most effective, warm the hydrocolloid before use. Heat is the catalyst for long-lasting effectiveness. Lastly, take care to remove the adhesive slowly and carefully. Taking the proper steps will help to preserve they patient’s skin.

Patented Use of NeoBond for Electrodes

The use of hydrocolloid sets our NeoLead® neonatal ECG electrodes apart from the rest. Competitive electrodes use hydrogel adhesive exclusively. Hydrogel is a great conductor that facilitates strong tracings. It also promotes healthy skin, which is always a positive. But the hydrogel doesn’t hold up over time. Especially in humidity. This causes other electrodes to slip or fall off much more easily.

When applied correctly, the moisture-resistant NeoBond helps to stabilize NeoLead electrodes. Plus it prevents the hydrogel from oozing or drying prematurely.
